Frequently Asked Questions about PAC

What is PAC?

A Political Action Committee (PAC) is a committee formed by a business, labor or other special interest groups to raise money and make contributions to the campaigns of political candidates whom they support.

Why does IIANC support two different PAC’s?

North Carolina Small Business PAC is used to support the political campaigns of elected officials for the State of North Carolina. InsurPAC is used to support political campaigns of federal elected officials.

Why does the Big “I” need my help?

From a legislative standpoint, this could be the most momentous year that the independent agency system will face this decade. Many issues that will impact our future and the future of the independent agency system will be addressed this year. Everything from agency compensation and disclosure to a federal insurance commissioner could be considered by lawmakers this year.

It will be critical that all members of Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA) across North Carolina  and the nation come together to support issues that will be critical to our future success. Our agency membership in IIANC entitles you to be a member participant in both our state and national associations.

What can I do to help our PACs?

Here is how you can help:

  • Give early and evaluate your contribution in comparison to how important these legislative and regulatory issues are to your own personal compensation. IIANC does recognize contributors of $25 or more in our bi-monthly magazine.

  • Encourage your co-workers to give. With 100% of licensed staff contributing a minimum of $10, your agency can be awarded the prestigious “Leader of the PAC” award. This award is highlighted in IIANC’s bi-monthly magazine.

  • Be involved and get to know state and federal lawmakers in your area. A personal phone call, letter or personal contribution to your local representative will assist in developing key grassroots relationships that are important when we need their support on legislation.
