Reclassification of Continuing Education Courses
As most of you know, the Department of Insurance has introduced major changes in Continuing Education requirements beginning in 2008. Among those changes is that there is no longer a requirement that CE hours be taken in any particular area of licensure (i.e. Property/Casualty or Life/Health). In addition, the designations that we have used in the past to denote a particular type of course will no longer be used. In other words, there will not longer be courses designated as P&L or as L&H.
All Continuing Education courses will now be listed in one of three categories; General, Flood, and Ethics. IIANC is going to use a 3-letter identifier for each type of course as follows:
General - GEN
Flood - FLD
Ethics - ETH
All course labeled "General", "Ethics" or "Flood” will count toward meeting your biennial 24-hour CE requirement. In addition, courses labeled "Ethics" will satisfy the Department of Insurance requirement for Ethics continuing education. Courses labeled "Flood" will satisfy the requirement for Flood continuing education.
IIANC offers both classroom and online courses for Flood and Ethics. In addition, we will continue to offer courses related to Life and Health topics, as we believe that if you are licensed in this area, you should continue to take courses relating to these licenses. However, you are no longer REQUIRED to do so. These courses will be identifiable by title and description as relating to Life and Health topics.
