On March 8, 2006, the  IIANC Young Agents Committee presented a check for $54,515 to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  This money will be used to endow scholarships for insurance majors in the Risk and Insurance Program at the Belk College of Business.

The presentation was made by 2005-06 Chairman Leamon Clemmons, Jr., CISR and Vice Chairman Kenny Richardson, CPCU, CIC, AAI.

The scholarship was the culmination of a project initiated under the 2003-04 Chairmanship of Jeff Thomas, CIC, AAI, CISR and continued under the 2004-05 Chairmanship of Scott Evans. The presentation was made at a luncheon at UNCC hosted by Chancellor Philip L. DuBois, Ph.D.  Representing the Belk College of Business were Claude Lilly, PhD., Dean; Faith Neale, PhD, Assistant Professor of Risk Management and Insurance and Beth Fischer, JD, Director of Development.

IIANC President Bill Bingham; Vice President Cleve Folger, CPCU, CIC;  and Secretary/Treasurer Neil Annas, CIC, CRM represented the IIANC Board of Directors. Members of the IIANC Young Agents Committee participated in the presentation.   Bob  Bird, IIANC Chief Executive Officer and Jovita Mask, IIANC Vice President of Administration and Staff Liaison for the Young Agents Committee were present.

In making the presentation, Clemmons noted that when Cleve Folger served as board liaison to the committee, he challenged them to do something that would make a difference to the industry for a long time and something that could carry their name.  The committee recognized that attracting new people to the industry was a major challenge.  The initial effort was to raise funds to provide one $1,000 scholarship.  The committee then set a goal to establish a $50,000 endowment.  Through raffles and solicitation of contributions, they exceeded their goal ahead of schedule.

A plaque  in the Belk College of Business and in the IIANC offices in Cary will recognize everyone who contributed $500 or more to the endowment.  There will be ongoing efforts to secure additional contributions to grow the endowment.  Special thanks goes to Jackie Harper, Assistant to Dean Lilly for arranging the luncheon.
