It’s 2020. Carrier platforms are in many cases out of date. The number of agencies is falling. Insurtechs number in the thousands. And attracting new people to roles the IA Channel does not support, seems impossible.

The jetpacks we were promised...aren’t coming. For the indie agent to keep pace with the customer and create the margins necessary to thrive, we’ll have to build them ourselves.

Swiping My Way to Success: How Dating and Customer Experience Go Hand in Hand

There I was. Another first date I knew right from the beginning wasn’t going to go beyond just that: the first date. I know what you’re thinking – “Isn’t this supposed to be about insurance?” It is. Follow me here. 

It seemed like I was striking out left and right. But I couldn’t just give up, could I? So I continued going and continued asking the same questions, going through the motions when it hit me: why not turn this into a business opportunity? Enter: Swiping my way to success. 

Maybe you’re going through this now or maybe you’ve already found ‘the one’ – but think about it: dating is incredibly comparable to how we get our insurance clients. Or at least how we should be getting them. In this industry, retention is key. We want to find ‘the ones’ – the ones that are going to value quality over price, that will be open to communication and most important of all, will stick around. I’m going to walk you through the steps to dating, I mean, courting your clients. 

It all starts with your (agency) profile. What does it say about you? Is accurate? Or better yet – does it even exist? Just like on a dating app, whether we admit it or not, the first thing we base our decision on is appearance. I’m going to provide you with important tips and tricks to get your online presence in ‘swipe right’ mode. 

Congrats – they liked your profile enough to initiate the conversation. Now we’re on to the first date. It’s easy to get over excited to close the deal – but here’s where the regular agents and the awesome agents get set apart: are you interested in them or just interested in the premium? I’m here to help you through this. I’ll be talking about leading questions, directing the conversation and most important, setting yourself up for a long time relationship and not just a fling!

2020 is shaping up to be a dramatic, dynamic election year in North Carolina. The top three races on the ballot - President, US Senate, Governor - are all expected to be hotly contested and highly competitive, and will cast a long shadow over all the other contests for state office (including the race for Commissioner of Insurance). 

IIANC Vice President for Governmental Affairs Joe Stewart will provide an overview of state’s currently electoral landscape, and also offer insights on what issues the NC General Assembly is likely to take up during the legislative session that starts in May.
