Independent Insurance Agents of NC Named #1 Small Employer on 2026 Best Employers List by Business North Carolina Magazine; #2 Overall in North Carolina
Cary, NC // June 1, 2026 – The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) has once again been named the #1 employer in the small-sized company category (49 employees or fewer) and the #2 Best Employer overall in North Carolina on the 2026 Business North Carolina Best Employers list. The annual ranking recognizes companies across the state for exceptional workplace culture, employee satisfaction, and organizational excellence.
This marks the sixth time IIANC has been recognized on the prestigious list and the third time earning the top ranking among small employers. The association also earned the #1 small employer ranking in 2025 and 2023, further reinforcing its reputation as one of North Carolina’s premier workplaces.
“To be recognized as the #1 small employer in North Carolina for the second consecutive year and ranked #2 overall among employers of all sizes is an incredible honor,” said Aubie Knight, IIANC’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our team is the heart of everything we do. We have intentionally built a culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, flexibility, and professional growth, and this recognition reflects the commitment and passion our employees bring to work every day.”
IIANC’s award-winning culture is built on six core values that guide how employees work, collaborate, and serve members. Through flexible schedules, hybrid work options, competitive benefits, wellness initiatives, and a commitment to innovation, including the strategic use of artificial intelligence, IIANC empowers employees to thrive while advancing the association’s mission. The organization’s investment in people extends beyond its own staff through workforce development initiatives like InsurAcademy and its nationally recognized Agent Development Program, which are helping shape the future of the independent insurance industry.
IIANC was also pleased to see several member agencies recognized among North Carolina’s top workplaces. Among the organizations named to the 2026 Best Employers list in the small-sized company category were Callahan & Rice Insurance Group in Fayetteville, Johnson Insurance Services in Mocksville, and Granite Insurance in Granite Falls.
“This recognition is especially meaningful because it is driven by feedback from our employees,” Knight added. “We are proud to foster an environment where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work. As we continue to grow and innovate, maintaining a strong culture will remain one of our highest priorities.”
Business North Carolina’s Best Employers program honors organizations with outstanding workplace cultures and employee experiences. Rankings are based on employee survey feedback and evaluations of key areas including leadership, engagement, compensation and benefits, professional development, work-life balance, and organizational effectiveness.
