IIANC Wins the 2020 Maurice Herndon Award

The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) was awarded the 2020 Maurice Herndon Award by the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA).
Awarded annually by the Big "I", the Herndon Award is bestowed upon the state association whose legislative achievements the previous year are deemed most outstanding in the nation.
The honor is named after the former head of IIABA’s government affairs operation, Maurice Herndon, who died in 2003 at age 91. Herndon directed the IIABA Washington D.C. office from 1949 to 1976 and was known as “Mr. Washington” to agents and brokers across America. He is fondly remembered as an extremely effective leader of the Big “I” government affairs and grassroots operations.
Among IIANC 's accomplishment recognized were: support for the four IIANC members running for the North Carolina Senate (Senators Jim Burgin, Kevin Corbin, Todd Johnson, Vickie Sawyer); efforts as a leading advocate to pass a hands-free driving law; securing increased support among independent insurance agents for both the state and federal political action committees (iPAC and InsurPAC); and, greater participation by IIANC members in a wide array of advocacy and political engagement efforts organized by the IIANC Governmental Affairs program.
