Diversity Initiatives

Events of the past year have brought a heightened sense to the need for organizations to examine how their actions and efforts are assisting the promotion of diversity, inclusion, and racial justice. While IIANC and its members have always been incredible at serving our communities in many ways, especially in times of crisis and disaster, we recognize that there is room for improvement when it comes to diversity issues.

IIANC also knows that actions speak far louder than words. We are pleased to announce three new initiatives to help us move in the right direction on this issue.

  • IIANC Diversity Committee: Raquel Tillman, Tillman Insurance Advisors, will serve as Chair of this newly-formed committee, which will be charged with providing IIANC direction and suggestions on being a more inclusive organization and increasing minority participation within the association.
  • Diversity Scholarship Program: In order to encourage the hiring of more minorities by our member agencies, IIANC has designated $10,000 to pay for the pre-licensing and other on-boarding training needed by newly hired minorities. See below for more information.
  • Historically Black College & University Outreach: In partnership with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, IIANC will be funding outreach programs at North Carolina’s HBCUs that are designed to increase awareness and encourage the pursuit of careers in either insurance regulation or the broader insurance industry.
IIANC stands strongly against racism and injustice and we are committed to making positive, meaningful changes that will create more diversity within the insurance community in North Carolina.

Diversity Scholarship

In an effort to demonstrate our commitment to the promotion of diversity, inclusion and racial justice, IIANC's Diversity Scholarship will offset the cost of pre-licensing, professional development, and other onboarding-related training needed to newly-hired racial minorities by IIANC member agencies. IIANC stands strongly against racism and injustice and we are committed to making positive, meaningful changes that will create more diversity within North Carolina's insurance community. The scholarship amount is $500 and will be awarded to agencies to offset incurred costs.
