Drew Nicholson, MBA, CRM, CIC, ASLI, AU, TRA

As IIANC’s Director of Property Risk, Drew Nicholson oversees the property insurance program for the State of North Carolina, helping to protect the state’s assets with strategic risk management expertise.
Originally from Richmond, VA, Drew earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Richmond. He stumbled into the insurance world as a commercial underwriter with Liberty Mutual, quickly discovering an interest in the industry. After moving into brokerage at All Risks, Ltd. (now RT Specialty), he transitioned to the public sector—serving as a Risk Specialist at UNC Chapel Hill and later as Director of Insurance & Risk Management at NC State University.
Committed to ongoing growth, Drew earned his MBA from NC State’s Jenkins Graduate School of Management and continues to expand his knowledge through professional development. His broad experience across underwriting, brokerage, and risk management gives him a well-rounded perspective for his work at IIANC.
Outside the office, Drew enjoys life with his wife, their goldendoodle Merritt, and their young son, born in early 2025. An avid athlete, he stays active by running, going to the gym, working on his golf and disc golf game, playing soccer, and exploring the outdoors with his family.
Fun Facts:
· I’m extremely competitive—but I’ve learned to lose with dignity as I’ve aged (most of the time).
· I was once on a local news channel high school Jeopardy team... we didn’t win, and I’m still not great at trivia.
· I ran two marathons in 2019—turns out I like long runs almost as much as long policy forms
